“I feel like there’s this movement happening and we’re living firsthand in it. That’s the beauty of New York. In this constant movement of change, change in chaos, you need a storm to grow. We’re always in the storm and I do see this collective consciousness evolving in terms of going back to the grassroots and, planting things with the intention to create something with authenticity.”
– Haley Newman
Haley and I go way, way back to our undergrad years at Parsons the New School for Design over 10 years ago. We actually met as competitors during the Fusion Fashion Show during my sophomore year. I just remembered being is enamored and intimidated by how much talent, focus, creativity this woman holds.
We reconnected just last year on Instagram and decided to catch up on life in this episode, doing our own version of a “decade in review” since we’ve last seen each other. In this episode we don’t hold back on our opinions as we discuss topics on boundary setting, our experiences in the fashion industry, understanding the creative ego, discussing how carbon footprints are negatively affecting the state of our planet to what we’ve both been up to in our projects this past decade.
More than anything, I’m extremely thrilled to announce that Haley has just launched her skincare line called hales bty (BTY stands for Bolder Than Youth) which I will include all of the information you need to know in the show notes below.
I had the chance to use all of her products and I’m such a huge fan. This woman is on a mission to nourish, optimize, and upgrade our skincare with the finest ingredients. She is deeply focusing on spreading awareness on how we can all make better conscious lifestyle decisions rooted in sustainability, cell renewal and creating a business focused on empathy.
[4:41] We discuss boundary setting with other people and what being honest looks like in a world where the truth can hurt.
[7:29] Haley talks in-depth about what the creative ego is and how this concept doesn’t contribute to a lasting solution in society.
[15:00] Why taking care of our skin is crucial and how it affects our conscious mindset/self-esteem.
[17:30] We talk about what inspired Haley to create her skincare line Hales BTY.
[19:41] Life in the fashion industry was difficult and the journey we both went through to make the transition to get out for good.
[27:34] Haley had an intriguing interpretation of what legacy building means and how she’s approaching lasting change in her own way.
[44:48] We discover how to follow through with our convictions and turn our ideas into a tangible business that can help others.
[47:02] Haley appreciates what nature does for her and how she finds her peace in upstate New York.
