I first connected with Amanda last year when she joined both my astrology business program, Embody U and my dark feminine embodiment Lilith experience. She had reached out during a time when she was in the thick of major life changes, something I’ve come to recognize as a telltale sign of an active Chiron Return.

After witnessing the way she showed up inside the space with such honesty and soul, I asked if she’d be open to sharing her story here on Substack.

She said yes, and what she sent back stopped me in my tracks.

If you’re currently in your Chiron Return, or will be in the years ahead, or you’re simply curious about what this transit might feel like in real life, I hope Amanda’s story provides illumination on Chiron, a placement that can often feel illusive yet disruptive at the same time.

Before we get into Amanda’s story, a little context on what Chiron Returns are.

Chiron Returns usually happens between ages 49 and 51, when transiting Chiron comes back to the exact degree it occupied at your birth. Everyone will go through a Chiron return when they reach this age period. I go in depth on Chiron cycles in the 1st workshop inside the Chiron Alchemist Series that you can catch the replay here.

Some astrologers consider you to be in your Chiron Return as long as transiting Chiron is in the same sign as your natal Chiron, while others require it to be within an eight-degree orb. The experience varies for each person, but the timing generally falls within this crucial midlife period.

I've worked with several clients going through their Chiron Return, and there's a pattern I see over and over again: mysterious health issues, chronic fatigue, adrenal crashes, autoimmune flare-ups. The body starts to speak when the psyche won’t or can’t.

There’s only so long we can bypass the parts of ourselves we’ve disowned. Chiron Return is a period of time that opens up the scab again. What’s been buried has to be transmuted.

Sometimes it shows up like a health scare. Sometimes like a marriage falling apart. Sometimes like a spiritual crisis or sudden loss of identity. But underneath all of it is this question:

Are you willing to finally face the wound you've spent your life surviving around?

There are two common paths this transit can take.

For those who have lived unconsciously with their Chiron wound, this period can feel like a sudden awakening filled with deep regret and existential crisis.

People who felt "fine" suddenly find themselves questioning everything, experiencing possible past regret, or experiencing what feels like a complete breakdown of their previous identity.

For others, this becomes the moment they step fully into their role as wounded healer. From going so far as to launching their soul vocational work (though it can be way more abstract, more nuanced than that), embrace their nodal path/natal promise unapologetically, or find themselves naturally drawn to mentorship roles. Ultimately, their pain becomes the compass for their vocation.

Below are questions helpful to ask during this time:

  • Have I been listening to my inner voice?

  • Where have I been pushing myself past my limits?

  • Am I still living from an outdated story about what I have to endure?

I personally work with Placidus calculation when exploring the psychological layers of the natal chart, especially with placements like Chiron. I find it reveals subtle nuances around internalized patterns, identity formation, and the felt experience of the wound.

That said, I know many of my clients enjoy using Whole Sign Houses for the clarity and simplicity it brings, and often, looking at both reveals a deeper, more layered story.

My take? Do what works for you.

Amanda’s natal chiron sits at 27° Aries in her 3rd house (whole sign) and 2nd house (Placidus) which forms an opposition to Uranus in Libra in the 8th house.

Now onto Amanda’s story.

In 2018, I stood at a crossroads I didn't yet recognize. I had just earned my third degree in Computer Science on April 22nd, a date that feels synchronistic as my son was born on 4/22. My master's was conferred on 4/22. And yet… what should have felt like a mountaintop moment felt strangely hollow.

My soul felt like it was quietly unraveling.

I had spent eight years deeply embedded in a church-based foster care agency, rising from Office Manager to Director of IT. My entire ecosystem was rooted in this church. I lived on its property for years while my husband, a chronic addict, cycled in and out of its men's rehab program.

My daughter was graduating from its private school. This place had shaped every corner of my life. And yet... I was no longer sure I believed in the God it taught me to serve.

One night, in desperation, I cried out: "Show me where You are, outside of these walls. If You are God, You can't be confined to a doctrine. Show me something bigger."

And Spirit actually answered.

The response wasn't a beam of light though. Life soon after slowly dismantled and unraveled for me. I’ll come to know much later on that this was the rupture disguised as grace.

My husband relapsed again. My daughter left for college. I left my job and with it, my entire social and spiritual support system.

Once you leave a high-control religious community, it can leave you feeling untethered. At first, they treat you like someone who needs to be saved. But the moment you stop performing their idea of "righteousness," the prayers dry up. You become a cautionary tale to them.

Suddenly, I was no one's mother, no one's wife, no one's leader. I was stripped. Alone. Grieving a version of God I no longer recognized.

That's when the grief cracked me open.

I slept in my daughter's room for weeks, sobbing. I felt like I'd failed as a wife, mother, leader, and believer. I had no job. No church. No community. Friends who once prayed over me now ghosted me, seeing me as a backslidden sinner.

What I understand now, looking back, is that this collapse was excavating something much older. From the moment I was born, my existence was hidden. My mother's pregnancy was unplanned and unwanted. The identity of my birth father was kept secret.

For the first two years of my life, I was concealed out of fear that he would discover me. When my adoptive father came into our lives around age two, he promised to protect us. And for a while, it seemed like he did.

From the outside, my early childhood appeared privileged and secure. But behind closed doors, my mother was emotionally and physically abusive. She told me I should have been aborted, that I ruined her life. She would hit me and throw things. In public, she performed love. At home, she enacted cruelty.

My father was strict and religious, more concerned with grades than emotional connection, but I idolized him as many little girls do. When my mother was killed in a car accident when I was 15, I lost more than a parent. I lost my entire sense of identity. Not long after, I learned I had been adopted. It was as if both of my parents had died.

Everything shifted after that. I was sent away to a juvenile wilderness camp, then to a boarding school. I became pregnant while there, ran away in the night, and moved in with my boyfriend.

I lost my family. My grandparents disowned me. My father grew distant. From that moment on, I had no foundational family.

So I began crafting new identities. I became a mother. A wife. The smartest person in the room. The overachiever. The high-functioning employee. The triple-degreed technologist. The web developer. The Director of IT.

Desperate to find something to anchor, I enrolled in priestess training. I began studying the Akashic Records, sigils, energy systems, the Divine Feminine. I read everything I could get my hands on: Seat of the Soul, The Celestine Prophecy, The Sacred Enneagram, The Bhagavad Gita, Be Here Now, The Sophia Code. It cracked open a new way of seeing, but it also destabilized me.

What I didn't know then was that I was entering a spiritual psychosis, a disorientation of self that felt both holy and terrifying.

When I left the corporate world, I rebranded myself again: tarot reader, astrologer, Akashic guide, priestess, intuitive. Each time, I wore a new mask. Not to hide... but to exist. To prove that I mattered. That I was someone.

My body started screaming back

By 2022, the internal unraveling became physical. I started experiencing intense migraines, light sensitivity, vision issues, and a persistent high-pitched ringing in my ears. I'd never had symptoms like this. No one believed me, not my family, not my husband. He accused me of faking it to avoid going into the office.

My job at Wounded Warrior Project, where I worked as a Business Systems Analyst, denied my ADA request to work remotely even though my doctor submitted documentation about my condition and my inability to drive safely. It didn't matter that my role had been hybrid for years. That others in my exact position were fully remote. I had even trained many of them myself.

I was told to take unpaid leave or drive through dangerous traffic with neurological symptoms. When I refused, I was pushed onto FMLA and short-term disability. I lost my income. I lost my insurance. And I almost lost my mind.

It is not lost on me that I was experiencing the loss of my identity as a professional, as a provider, as a woman trying to be believed, being painfully separated from Wounded Warrior Project during my Chiron Return, the cosmic Wounded Warrior. I was being broken open at every seam so I could finally stop living for survival and start healing for real.

In April 2022, my estranged paternal grandmother died.

In May 2023, my daughter graduated from college. I smiled for the camera, but I continue to unravel inside.

In June 2023, my estranged paternal grandfather died, and in August 2023, my maternal grandfather, my mother's abuser, died.

That triggered a chain effect of grief, rage, and ancestral pain that I didn't even know was still living in my body. I posted about it publicly and received relationship-ending backlash from my family.

My husband and I were fighting constantly. I was spiraling. I stopped recognizing myself.

I finally got an MRI in September 2023, which confirmed white matter lesions on my brain, supporting both a migraine disorder and a likely Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. By the end of October 2023, I was fully suicidal.

Finally retreating for self-discovery

In November 2023, I admitted myself to an inpatient mental wellness facility in South Florida. I spent over a month there, untangling my soul from the wreckage of my life.

It became a sacred retreat. I sobbed. I slept. I remembered. I wrote.

When I emerged in December 2023, I knew I couldn't go back to the life I had. And a second MRI in January confirmed my diagnosis of MS.

My Chiron Return seemed to have decimated every illusion I had built to survive.

It ripped away the masks of "good wife," "faithful daughter," "model employee," "spiritual overachiever." It left me naked, unrecognizable even to myself.

But it also gave me clarity. Beyond just personal pain, I also realized how ancestral it was.

I realized I’m not here to rescue anyone, not even the people I love most. I am here to remember who I am. To heal. To guide.

I began doing shadow work in earnest at the beginning of 2024. For the first time, I was able to understand my shadow not as something to fix or fear, but as an aspect of myself that needed to be acknowledged, accepted, and allowed to exist.

My shadow became a friend who held my pain and grief, rather than the monster hiding under my bed.

It was during this period that I stumbled upon Michelle's work. I was immediately drawn to the Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov aesthetic from her Lilith work, the teaching style, and the way astrology was fused with brand identity in a way I'd never seen before.

By this point in my journey, I was already well-versed in astrology, but this was speaking an entirely different language. A deeper astrology. One that didn't just orbit around Sun, Moon, and Rising, but reached into the deeper archetypal bones of the chart.

I quickly signed up for the Sacred Biz Masterclass, then subscribed to Bleeding Mercury. I was lucky to receive a Saturn Rx reading and not long after, I joined both the Lilith course and Embody U. This connection felt divinely led. Spirit was orchestrating my exposure to these teachings in perfect alignment with the unraveling and remembering happening inside me.

The Lilith course, in particular, gave voice to a grief I didn't yet know how to articulate. It allowed me to validate my rage. To cry out loud. To be seen in the shadow.

That course gave me the courage to finally leave the toxic marriage I had been trapped in for so long.

The final break

My marriage officially collapsed by July 2024. I could no longer sacrifice myself for the sake of this person, no matter how much I felt I loved him.

It was clear to me that I had been believing in a fantasy, and the reality of our relationship was far from a fairytale. I left him for good.

I moved to North Carolina to heal, to rest, to rebuild, and to be near my daughter as she begins her life. And for the first time in decades, I chose myself.

Throughout my Chiron Return, I've often asked: What is this sacred wound trying to teach me?

For years, the answer would come in flashes but never in full. It's only through the process of writing this story that I've come into complete clarity.

Back in 2018, when I stood at the breaking point of my faith, I cried out to God and asked not just, "Where are You outside of these walls?" but also, "Who am I? Who am I to You?"

That question is the key that has unlocked everything.

I now see that my deepest wound, the one Chiron has been pressing on, is my lack of identity. But this Chiron Return stripped all of that away. It called me to the center gate of my Soul. To confront the terrifying possibility that I could be no one and still be whole. That I could be seen only by myself and still be real.

In this stripping away, I've begun to uncover something more true. A quieter identity. One that doesn't perform, doesn't climb, doesn't prove. One that simply is.

Today, I live with my cat, Kali, and I build soul-aligned branded websites for mystics. I teach AI as a form of ancestral intelligence, and I tend to my body and the family that I choose to allow in my life.

My Chiron will retrograde on my exact degree, 27° Aries, and then return to my exact degree again on April 22nd, 2026.

4/22.

My son's birthday. My graduation day. The number that threads through all my rebirths.

I don't know what's ahead in this final year of the return, but I know I am held. I honor this process. I submit to the transformation.

If you were to ask me what God is now, I'd say: God is the silence I found after the storm.

God is the presence that sat with me in the psychiatric abyss.

God is the one who said, "There's more than this, hold on."

And I did. And I am. And I will.
